Running M/K Studios, my photography and media business, has given me far more than a portfolio of beautiful images; it’s honed my ability to manage complex projects, communicate clearly, and deliver meaningful experiences under pressure.
Photographing weddings, in particular, has been an intensive masterclass in soft skills and project management. Each event requires months of client communication, timeline coordination, and logistical planning, often across multiple locations and teams. I balance creative direction with emotional intelligence, adapting quickly to changing light, weather, and human dynamics, all while maintaining calm, confidence, and professionalism.
Beyond the camera, founding and running my own business has strengthened my entrepreneurial and operational skills. From registering an LLC and managing contracts to filing taxes, tracking expenses, and reinvesting in equipment, I’ve learned the full scope of small business ownership. I handle everything from branding and marketing to client acquisition, pricing, and workflow optimization skills that directly translate into strategic project management and sustainable business thinking.
From first inquiry to final gallery delivery, I oversee every step of the process: scheduling, budgeting, editing workflows, and client feedback. These experiences have shaped the foundations of my organization, leadership, and interpersonal communication, which carry directly into my work in marketing, sustainability, and storytelling.
I’ve been documenting and attending weddings professionally since I was 14 and began solo shooting at 19. It’s truly been my career before my career even began. While many underestimate the industry and craft, it has given me one of the most diverse skill sets I possess. I can connect with anyone, make them feel comfortable in front of the camera, and navigate a wide range of emotions, all while capturing authentic, meaningful moments.
